Ann Wilkins Legacy Scholarship
Purpose
The Ann Wilkins Legacy Scholarship supports efforts to grow the number of Black, Indigenous, and other educators of color working in Indiana. The award honors Ann Wilkins, a former teacher in Indianapolis Public Schools, a past president of the Indianapolis Education Association, and a former ISTA UniServ Director.
Award
Recipients receive $1,000 per semester, renewable for a second semester (maximum of two semesters).
Who is eligible
- Undergraduate or graduate students who identify as BIPOC.
- Must be enrolled in a full-time practicum as part of pursuing licensure in one of the Indiana Approved Educator Preparation Programs.
- Must be a current ISTA Aspiring Educator member.
- Must intend to seek employment in a public school system in Indiana.
Application materials
- One letter of reference.
- An essay of 500 words or fewer describing why a racially diverse faculty is important to the learning outcomes of Hoosier students.
Deadlines and selection
Nominations/applications are due by Nov. 15 for fall-semester consideration and by April 15 for spring-semester consideration. The Racial Affairs Committee will review submissions and select the awardee.
