Introduction
Brown Bass & Jeter is a full-service litigation firm based in Jackson, Mississippi, proudly owned and led by Black women. The firm’s partners are recognized trailblazers who believe that strengthening and rebuilding neighborhood communities is fundamental to progress across society.
Scholarship Overview
To support that mission, Brown Bass & Jeter is offering two $1,000 scholarships for college or other post-secondary students who demonstrate leadership and a commitment to community development.
Who Should Apply
This award seeks students from a variety of backgrounds who are emerging community leaders. We welcome applicants at any stage of post-secondary study — from first-year undergraduates through law students — who can point to leadership experience and community-focused activities such as extracurricular involvement, internships, jobs, or volunteer service.
Essay Prompt and Requirements
- Topic: Place your chosen topic at the top of your essay.
- Prompt: Many great leaders are determined and committed to their causes. Describe a cause you care deeply about and explain how you have — or how you would — rally others to care about it.
- Length: 1,000 words (essays that fail to meet the word count will not be considered).
- Format: Submit your essay as a PDF. Include the essay with your application packet.
Submission Details and Award
- Number and Amount of Awards: Two scholarships, each worth $1,000.
- Essay filename convention: FirstName_LastName_BBJ_Scholarship1_2026.pdf
- Other formatting and word-count rules: Essays that do not meet the 1,000-word requirement or the PDF/filename format will be disqualified.
Eligibility
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Enrollment status: Must be currently enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, an accredited undergraduate, graduate, or community college program in the United States.
- High school seniors: If you are applying from high school, include an acceptance letter from the college or university you will attend.
