Don Watkins Memorial Scholarship

Overview
Each year the Idaho Press Club offers scholarships of up to $1,500 to students who graduated from Idaho high schools and have completed at least one year of college and plan to pursue a career in journalism or communications. Eligible applicants include full‑time college students who are majoring in journalism or those actively working for a college or professional media outlet.
Eligibility
- Graduate of an Idaho high school
- At least one year of college completed (postsecondary)
- Intending to pursue journalism or communications as a career
- Full‑time students majoring in journalism or students employed by a college or professional media organization qualify
Required application materials
- One‑page resume
- A 500‑word essay describing your interest in a journalism or communications career
- Samples of journalistic work (published or unpublished)
- Official or unofficial transcripts showing GPA through the most recent fall term
- Signed Scholarship Information Release form: Don Watkins Memorial Scholarship – Information Release (an electronic signature is acceptable)
How to submit
Email your complete application package to email@idahopressclub.org. If you have video entries, upload them to YouTube or a similar hosting service and include the link in your submission.
Deadline
Applications must be received by February 15 each year for consideration for the scholarship awarded for the following fall term.
