Overview
The SME Education Foundation awards more than 60 scholarships each year, distributing nearly $1 million in total. A single application automatically places you into consideration for every scholarship for which you qualify. Individual awards range from $2,500 to $20,000.
Types of awards
The Foundation offers both merit- and need-based scholarships, including one-time grants and renewable awards. Applications from all eligible students are encouraged, with particular outreach to young women and students from underrepresented communities.
Important dates
The online scholarship application is available annually from November 1 through February 1. The process is simple — submit one application and you’ll be reviewed for every scholarship that matches your eligibility.

Eligibility requirements
To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a graduating high school senior or a current college student (associate or bachelor’s level)
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
- Be pursuing an associate, bachelor’s, or graduate degree in a technical discipline that directly supports manufacturing
- Be enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada
- Be a U.S. or Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a valid student visa
- Be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student
