Overview
The Kansas Police Officers Association (KPOA) Scholarship supports students who are children or dependents* of active KPOA members and who are pursuing postsecondary education at an accredited institution in Kansas. Awards are granted according to the eligibility and submission requirements below.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be a high school senior or a current college student and must be the child or dependent* of an active KPOA member. (“Dependent” follows the IRS definition: either a qualifying child or a qualifying relative of the taxpayer.)
- Applicant must plan to attend an accredited Kansas technical school, community/junior college, or four-year university.
- Applicant must register for at least 12 credit hours each semester and keep a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Applicant must submit an official, typed, and signed KPOA Scholarship Application. The form is intended to be filled out online and then printed for signature.
- High school transcripts — and college transcripts if the applicant has college coursework — must accompany the application.
- Applicants must be available for an oral interview if requested by the KPOA Scholarship Committee.
- Include a one-page, typed statement (maximum one page) describing academic and life goals.
- Attach a recent photograph.
- Include a current-year letter of endorsement from a law enforcement officer who is not the applicant’s parent or other relative.

Award Information
- Each scholarship award is $1,000, paid in two equal installments of $500 — one for the first semester and one for the second semester.
- To qualify for the second-semester payment, recipients must provide an official transcript showing their first-semester GPA and documentation of second-semester enrollment of at least 12 credit hours.
- Up to five $1,000 scholarships may be awarded per calendar/fiscal year.
- An individual may receive a maximum of two annual scholarships (totaling up to $2,000).
*Dependent is defined as either a qualifying child or a qualifying relative under IRS rules.
