Overview
The Duane & Shirley Hiller Student Athlete Scholarship Fund is managed by the Siouxland Community Foundation, based in Sioux City, Iowa. Created in 2009 by relatives and friends, the fund supports local student-athletes as they continue their education after high school.
Purpose
This scholarship helps graduating seniors from West Monona High School or Kingsley‑Pierson High School who intend to enroll in post‑secondary education.
Who may apply
- Graduating seniors from West Monona High School or Kingsley‑Pierson High School.
- Candidates must have participated in school‑sponsored athletics during each of their four years of high school.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicants must plan to attend an accredited post‑secondary institution in Iowa, Nebraska, or South Dakota.
How recipients are chosen
Awards are made after review of academic record, involvement in extracurricular and community activities, employment history, and evaluation of the submitted essay.
Award amount
- The scholarship is a one‑time award of at least $500 and is not renewable.
Application instructions
Applications must be submitted by the February 1 deadline and include:
- Completed online application (this scholarship is included in the Siouxland Community Foundation common application)
- Personal essay
- Official high school transcript
